Running a Morrisby Profile Session
What is this?
A Morrisby Profile session lets students explore their interests, preferences and strengths through a set of psychometric assessments and questionnaires. Students aged 15 and over (UK Year 10+) complete the Verbal, Numerical, Abstract, Spatial and Mechanical assessments alongside Interests and Personality questionnaires. Afterwards, they can also complete Priorities and Study Interests if your school wants them to. The Profile session takes about 1hour 50 minutes, and results are generated immediately.
There is an option to use the abridged version, which takes around 80 minutes in total, and does not include Spatial and Mechanical assessments and the Personality questionnaire (all three can be done later as optional tests).
This guide covers the full process: setting up student accounts, running the session in your classroom or space, and using the results to support student conversations and school planning.
What you need
- Time: Book your space for about 2 hours for the full version or 80 minutes for the abridged version (this includes 5-10 minutes for setup). Book extra time if you want your students to explore their results immediately or complete optional questionnaires.
- Devices: Enough compatible devices (laptops, tablets, Chromebooks) for all students, all with internet access and charged batteries (or charging cables on hand).
- Technical: Working keyboards and mice for desktops. Check the Technical Requirements Checklist with your IT staff to confirm your system is compatible (most school systems are).
- People: Someone with Morrisby Manager access to set up student accounts before the session. The person running the session itself can be any member of staff.
- Note on results: By default, students see their results straight after completing the questionnaire. If your school has configured this differently, results may be unlocked by staff at a later date.
Before the Session (Admin Setup)
Step 1: System Settings
Open 'Settings' in Morrisby Manager and go to 'Profiling Sequence' to edit the following:
- Choose between the full-length assessment or abridged version
- Change the Break text that will be displayed to students throughout the assessment
- Decide whether the vocabulary test will be compulsory or optional for ESL students
- Pick whether results will be available immediately or if they will be locked and then unlocked at a later point
- Edit the Profiling Complete Message
Step 2: Choose how to create student accounts
Choose one of the three methods below. All three create the same student accounts and can be used to send invite emails.
Self-registration
Students register themselves using a unique code from your Morrisby Manager homepage. They provide their Name, Surname, Date of Birth, and Email Address (school email recommended).
Guide for students: Your First Morrisby Profile Login (self-registration)
Uploading students via CSV
You create accounts in bulk using a spreadsheet, upgrading their accounts to Profiling and then send invite emails to students. Students log in using the details from the email and set their own password on first login.

MIS Sync
If you have purchased MIS Sync as an add-on, you sync student data directly from your school MIS. Accounts are created automatically, and you upgrade their accounts to Profiling and send out invite emails.

Guide: How to send an invite email to students
Important: If you suspect a registration code has been used by someone outside your school, or if a student registers more than once by mistake, contact support@morrisby.com and we will help.
Please note: If you are using CSV import and do not upgrade students to Profiling while importing, if you are using MIS Sync or if students already have accounts from previously self-registering for Morrisby Careers, you will need to upgrade the student accounts to Profiling in the 'Students' section. Follow this guide: How to upgrade to Profiling
We recommend upgrading accounts to Profiling and sending out invite emails close to the planned session, to prevent students from logging in too early and accidentally starting the test.
Step 3: Check your technical setup
Ask your IT staff to confirm your system meets the Technical Requirements Checklist.
Ensure all devices have internet access and are charged (or have charging cables available).
Verify that desktops have working mice and keyboards.
Test one student device by logging in to Morrisby to confirm everything works.
If you have concerns, contact support@morrisby.com and we will help you troubleshoot.
Step 4: Prepare your students
Before the session, explain what students will be doing and what they will get from it. You might say something like:
"In this session, you will complete an assessment that explores your strengths, interests and preferences. Your results will help you understand what your strengths and interests are and how this connects to careers, subject choices, and educational pathways. We will use your results to have conversations about your next steps."
Tell them:
- The expected length of the session.
- They do not need any special preparation.
- If any students need to see the practice questions in advance, you can share this link with them: Morrisby Profile - Practice Questions
- If they wear glasses to read a screen, they should bring them.
- Students do not need calculators or any other tools, but they may bring them if it helps them feel more at ease during the assessment.
- They will receive either an invite email or a self-registration code (depending on your setup method).
- When completing the aptitudes, parts of the assessment, they should not worry if they do not complete all available questions within the set time limit, the test is designed that way and it measures how far the student can get within the given time.
- Encourage honest engagement:
- The quality of results depends on how honestly they answer. Ask them to:
- Answer based on their own genuine interests, not what they think they should answer.
- Go with their first instinct (this is usually the most accurate).
- Not overthink individual questions.
- Remember that if their interests change, they can retake the questionnaires at any time.
Running the Session
Your introduction
Before students begin, welcome them and cover these points:
Explain that they will complete assessments and questionnaires to help them understand their strengths and interests in relation to careers and subject choices.
Ask that all mobile phones are switched off and no other programmes are open on their computers or tablets.
Remind them of the length of the session, and tell them when their results will be available.
Let them know that translation devices can be used by ESL students as needed. Mention whether the Vocabulary test is compulsory or optional for ESL students.
Check if anyone has questions before you start.
Students can then create their account or log in (depending on your setup method).
During the session
Let students work independently
If anyone needs to pause, they can use the "Log Out" button. Their progress is automatically saved, and they can finish later.
Circulate and offer quiet support if anyone is stuck, but encourage them to work through questions themselves.
Be ready to help with technical issues (login problems, device issues), but not with the questionnaire content itself.
If there are any technical issues with the platform, call Morrisby Support immediately on 0330 500 5000.
After the Session
What students have now
Each student has an Aptitudes, Interests and Personality overview showing their strengths, top interests and personality type and how these connect to careers, subjects, and study pathways. They can download this as a PDF report from their account whenever they want.
Encourage students to browse their results, favourite different options with the Heart icon or bin suggestions that they don't like.
What staff can do with the results?
Download individual student reports as PDFs to discuss one-to-one or in mentoring sessions.
Download group reports for the whole cohort or specific year groups.
View group statistics in your Dashboard to see interest trends across year groups with top favourite careers, courses, etc.
Using the data
Use the cohort data to spot patterns and plan targeted activities. For example:
If 60% of Year 10 students show strong IT interests, consider hosting an IT careers event, inviting industry speakers, or signposting relevant subject choices.
If a large group is interested in Health and Social Care, promote relevant work experience or university open days.
Use individual results in conversations with students about subject choices, career pathways, and next steps. These results are a starting point, not a destination.
If students want to retake the shorter questionnaires in future, they can do so using their existing login details. Their new results will reflect their current interests.
If students want to retake the aptitudes assessment, it will need to be reset for them by a member of staff with access to Morrisby Manager. A quick guide is available here: How to reset a student's aptitude assessments
